Listen to Your Mother

Yesterday, I got to go have my picture taken by the most amazing photographer–for free! If you know me, you know that “free stuff” is kind of my love language. But so is being made to feel pretty by Lisa Smiley’s awesome photography skills.

“Why this free photography?” you might ask. “And why are you telling me to listen to my mother?”

Aside from the fact that you should surely do the latter anyway, I’m telling you to listen to your mother because–get this–they’re giving me a microphone. I get to read an essay I wrote in a show called the Listen to Your Mother Show. And Lisa took really beautiful shots of all the cast members–thank you, Lisa! Click here for show information.

The topic of all of the essays being read live is motherhood. But the readers aren’t all mothers. We were invited to write on any aspect of motherhood–our own mothers, being a mother, not being a mother–whatever.

I am really looking forward to sharing my writing in this show. I would be honored if any of you wanted to come and bring your mom, or your (maybe slightly older) daughter, or just yourself!

The show takes place in the evening on Mother’s Day, you know, after all those brunches and churches and whatever else. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Crest Theatre here in Sacramento.

Oh, and if you want a beautiful dress like mine, ask me about my friend Beth Mellone’s Sonnet Design Studio. For wonderful pictures, visit http://www.lisasmileyphotography.com.
