The Friday Before Christmas

‘Twas the Friday before Christmas

And in the mom’s mind

Came a shocked realization

She was running out of time

Free shipping was ending

The stockings lay slack

The kids had been with Dad

But they were coming back

But what would she get them

These children of hers

They had plenty of their own toys

Plus many of hers

The daughter needs clothing

But clothes-gifts make kids cry

They all need some socks

But socks make them sigh

Did Mom get too many

Of gifts for one child

Leaving gaps for the others

Who would then go wild

Or did she forget any

Gifts for the baby

He doesn’t care yet

But the others will, maybe

And the others!

The gifts for the teachers

Did she remember

And who are the others who

Must be thought of in December

She hearkens back

To Christmas of yore

When she had lots of time

And perhaps brain cells more

The cards were sent early

Her stress levels mild

Gift wrapping was fun

And she was the child

Now I'm the Mom
Now I’m the Mom

  1. Laura, I love your blog! I’ve had so much fun looking around and have been laughing out loud at so many of your posts. Thank you for sharing honestly and humbly with the world. You are an encouragement to so many other moms out there who are just sloggin’ along most days.

I added you to my Feedly and look forward to more. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Oh so true! Especially with the baby. I had to give her a full stocking only because I knew the oldest would be upset if “Santa” didn’t come for her as well. Just more junk to clean up!

    1. Haha! Yes! Even my two year old didn’t really give a darn about his own presents.
